River
By modifying the everyday objects of domestic production and labor, River fits a household broom, usually associated with feminized, domestic labor, with long black hair—often aestheticized, even fetishized—thereby both re-examining the economic and aesthetic value of domestic labor in historical societies. slow-moving water silently provides sustenance to both banks and becomes a place where family and culture come together. The hair, sinuously flowing in the austere gallery space, becomes a source of vitality and nourishment.
